KOBUS RollUp Litter Vertical Anti-Rotation Stabilizer (VARS)
Stabilize the Litter, Control the Evacuation
The Vertical Anti Rotation Stabilizer, VARS, is a simple, purpose built tool for flight medics, search and rescue teams, and tactical rescue crews who perform aeromedical winch evacuations. When used as instructed the VARS lets two person teams control litter orientation without tag lines, by shifting the stabilizer to steer the litter. This reduces crew workload during hoist operations, and minimizes patient motion from rotor downwash. The VARS is designed specifically for use with KOBUS RollUp litters, it snaps to pre installed attachment points, and helps maintain stable, predictable hoists in demanding operational environments.
Simple Interface, Robust Attachment
Engineered for speed under pressure, the VARS uses four pre positioned Cobra buckles that snap into the matching buckles on the RollUp litter, creating a secure connection that remains installed between missions. Assembly and attachment are intentionally straightforward, allowing rapid deployment during pre flight checks or on scene. The stabilizer is compact and stores inside the RollUp carry case, making it practical to include in a standard evac kit. Packed dimensions are H 2 in. x L 18 in. x W 12 in., and the unit weighs just 3 lb, delivering a low profile solution that does not add significant load to the rescue package.
Built to Withstand Operational Use
Durability is a priority for equipment used around rotor wash and rough terrain, the VARS is constructed to perform in austere conditions while remaining easy to maintain. The Cobra buckles are corrosion resistant and rated for frequent use, and attachment points are arranged to distribute loads evenly. The stabilizer packs flat for transport and stores in the litter carry case, protecting components between missions. Lightweight construction keeps additional carry weight to a minimum, while robust hardware and reinforced seams ensure dependable performance across repeated hoists and deployments.
Multi Environment Use, Field Ready When You Need It
The VARS is effective across a wide range of operational scenarios, from shipboard hoists to mountain rescues, and urban TACEVAC missions. It is valuable for military medics conducting tactical extractions, civilian aeromedical crews performing patient lifts, and law enforcement teams managing downed subjects under rotor wash. Because it eliminates the need for tag lines in two person operations, teams can reduce personnel exposure near the landing zone and streamline patient movement. The compact form factor and straightforward attachment method make it equally useful for training evolutions and operational deployments.
