Fraudulent Review & Payment-Demand Alert
MyAED has received communications from individuals demanding money while threatening to post, maintain, or use negative online reviews and complaints against our company if payment is not made. Some of these communications have specifically referenced the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
What MyAED Has Experienced
MyAED has received unsolicited emails and telephone communications involving demands for money coupled with threats of reputational harm through negative reviews or complaints.
In some instances, the threats have specifically involved the Better Business Bureau. MyAED previously provided BBB with information concerning disputed review activity and our concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding certain reviews. Despite those reports, certain disputed content remained publicly visible.
After our experience with that process, MyAED made the business decision to stop routinely responding to BBB reviews and complaints. We believe our time and resources are better directed toward serving legitimate customers and preserving and reporting evidence of suspected fraudulent activity when appropriate.
Important: A Missing MyAED Response Is Not an Admission
If a BBB review or complaint does not contain a response from MyAED, that should not be interpreted as an admission that the allegations are accurate, that MyAED agrees with the statements, or that the person submitting the material was necessarily a verified MyAED customer. In many cases, MyAED simply chooses not to participate in that third-party response process.
MyAED Will Not Pay for Silence or Review Removal
MyAED will not pay an individual or organization merely because that person threatens to post, maintain, change, or distribute a negative review or complaint.
We do not consider a demand for money in exchange for withholding, removing, changing, or preventing negative publicity to be a legitimate customer-service resolution.
When MyAED receives communications that appear to involve fraudulent payment demands, impersonation, review manipulation, or threats made for financial gain, we may preserve the original emails, telephone information, messages, payment instructions, screenshots, and other available records. That information may be provided to the relevant website or platform, service providers, consumer-protection organizations, regulatory authorities, or law-enforcement agencies when appropriate.
Legitimate Customer Criticism Is Welcome
This notice is not intended to discourage genuine customers from criticizing MyAED. Customers have every right to provide honest feedback about their experience with our company, whether that feedback is positive or negative.
MyAED does not claim that every negative review, every BBB complaint, or every criticism of our company is fraudulent. Our concern is specifically with individuals or organizations that attempt to use reviews, complaints, or threats of reputational harm as leverage to obtain money or other benefits through deception or coercive demands.
Why MyAED Is Publishing This Notice
Online review and complaint systems can be useful tools for consumers and responsible businesses. Those systems are less useful when they are abused by people who have not had a legitimate marketplace interaction or when a threat of negative publicity is used to pressure a business into making an improper payment.
MyAED believes review platforms and consumer-protection organizations should maintain meaningful safeguards for situations in which a business provides credible documentation that a review or complaint may be associated with a fraudulent payment demand, impersonation scheme, or attempted review manipulation.
We are publishing this page so customers understand our policy and so that a lack of response from MyAED on a third-party complaint website is not mistakenly interpreted as an admission that every published allegation is true.
If You Receive a Similar Threat
If someone demands money while threatening a negative review, complaint, or other reputational harm, preserve the communications and avoid deleting the original evidence.
- Preserve the original email, text message, voicemail, caller information, screenshots, payment instructions, usernames, and website addresses.
- Do not provide passwords, one-time security codes, banking credentials, or other sensitive account information to an unverified person.
- Be cautious about clicking links or opening attachments included in suspicious communications.
- Consider reporting suspected fraud to the appropriate platform and government reporting service.
